Registration for the Saugus Public Schools’ preschool program will take place on Tuesday, March 8 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Veterans Early Learning Center, 39 Hurd Ave. in Saugus. 

The VELC’s integrated preschool program has a limited number of seats available for the 2022-23 school year.

March 8 is the only date for registration, which will be on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 9:30 a.m. A $100 deposit (bank check or money order only) at the time of registration is required to reserve a seat.

Families will receive a registration packet to fill out the day of registration; packets must be returned to the VELC by April 1. 

Once seats are filled, families will have the option of joining a wait list. 

The 3-year-old program will be half-day with a morning session from 8:30 to 11 a.m., and an afternoon session from 12 to 2:30 p.m. five days a week. Children must be 3 years old by Aug. 31, 2022 to start in September. There are no exceptions to the cutoff date. The cost is $3,150 for the 3-year-old program.

The 4-year-old program is full day and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. five days a week. Children must be 4 years old by Aug. 31, 2022 to start in September. There are no exceptions to the cutoff date. The cost is $6,000 for the 4-year-old program. 

All students must be toilet trained prior to the start of the program. The VELC is also a peanut-aware environment. 

VELC Principal Michael Mondello said the program for 4-year olds will be full day for all students next year.

“Our goal is to ensure our students are ready for kindergarten and we feel a full-day program for the 4-year-old students is the best approach,’’ Mondello said. 

The Saugus Public Schools created an early learning center for the start of the 2021-22 school to educate all students in preschool through first grade under one roof and one vision. 

“This new configuration is a tremendous opportunity for the district to help all students develop the foundational skills that are critical for their learning journey and future success,’’ Mondello said. 

Kindergarten registration will take place in April.
