On display in the First Floor Reading Room, May and June, 2024.
The artwork for this exhibition was created during a April, 2024 program at the Library led by Kelly Slater where participants were encouraged to creatively depict trees in Saugus.
The workshop asked them to use different, unusual techniques to produce their art. Working from photographs, each of the participants made 5-, 3-, and 1-line drawings of the trees using negative spaces and speed drawing, focusing on using different hands and concentrating on different parts of the trees. They also depicted trees selecting no more than 5 shapes.
Some of the participants have agreed to allow us to exhibit selected works in the First Floor Reading Room during the months of May and June. Please stop by and enjoy these creative approaches – designed to challenge the participants and encourage them to look at their subjects in different ways.
This event is sponsored in part by a generous grant from the Saugus Cultural Council, a local arm of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
