Starting on June 1st I will be recommending (or not!) some of the books I’ve been reading. Look for my reviews at the beginning of each month.
The Women by Kristen Hannah
Historical Fiction
This story takes place during the Viet Nam war and traces the horrors and political divide back in the United States. Frankie, a daughter of privilege, enlists in the army nurse corps against her family wishes. Although the author’s previous work such as The Nightingale and The Great Alone were written beautifully, I found the narrative of this story inauthentic and predictable.
My Name is Barbra by Barbra Streisand
Biography
If you are a fan of this EGOT(Emmy Grammy Oscar Tony) icon this is the book for you. This is beautifully written and captures the energy of her longstanding career. I highly recommend her illustrious writing!
The Lioness of Boston By Emily Franklin
Historical Fiction
The Lioness of Boston richly details Isabella Stewart Gardner’s search for a purpose in her life dominated by men. This story is about a significant woman in Boston during 1861-1924 who continues to this day leaving a long lasting legacy of cultural and social history. I highly recommend reading this beautifully written novel.
